My Story

I grew up with four of my five siblings with developing Type 1 Diabetes.  The impact this condition had on their health and the challenges it presented, taught me the preciousness of health at an early age.

I ate the Standard American Diet (SAD) most of my life. As a young adult, I exercised little. In my early thirties, I started getting migraine headaches. I went to a headache specialist who prescribed medication that he assured me was “completely safe.” A couple of years later the medication was taken off the market because it caused heart attacks. It made me realize that I needed to take more personal responsibility, and consider modalities beyond orthodox western medicine – modalities that might provide wellness without the risks of unwanted side effects that many pharmacological options present.  

Then in 1998 I started to get my act together with a more comprehensive approach. Yoga was my “gateway drug” into regular exercise. The gentle structure and community aspect appealed to me. Yoga provided me with a physical and mindful practice that bled into nutrition and other exercise.  These were areas within my control that had positive effects on my health. The relief of my migraines as a result of my lifestyle and nutritional changes invigorated and encouraged me to continue down a path of health and wellness.   Happily, within a few months the migraines diminished, and I felt better overall.

I took a deep dive into health when my 12 year old son in 2003—who had been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome—made a plea for help. His emotions were all over the map, and he had issues with fatigue. I took my son to a functional medicine doctor who treated him predominantly via diet and supplement changes geared toward his biology.  His quality of life dramatically improved. I can’t overstate how profoundly this affected me as a mother. The experience was life-changing for my whole family as we started to integrate nutritional, supplemental and lifestyle changes to better our physical and emotional health.

Now, I understand the adage of Hippocrates “Food is Medicine.” My holistic approach started out from the movement and mindfulness of yoga, then to nutrition.  I noticed how these changes affected other areas of life including emotional and mental wellbeing and human connection. 

Today, I spend my time diving deep into all things related to health and using that knowledge to help others live a healthier and more purpose-driven life.  Today, these people call me their health coach.  I love how incremental improvements compound into large positive changes in my life. My mission is to help others achieve these same experiences.
